About the work

Flo of the Somme

Flo of the Somme by Hilary Robinson tells the story of Flo, a Mercy Dog, who has to reach injured soldiers stranded on the battlefield. It is a beautifully illustrated tale that pays tribute to the remarkable bravery of the animals that worked alongside the soldiers in World War 1.  Year 4 studied the book and retold the story in their own words.  Click on the links below to see some examples of their work.

Letters from the front

Year 4 looked at original letters sent by soldiers to their loved ones. They used these along with the information they had learned through the project to write fictional letters home from the front.  Click on the links below to see some examples of their work.
