Our lads

The children of Wensum Junior School have researched each of the names listed on the St Barnabas Roll of Honour.  Working with local historian Neil Storey they used the Commonwealth War Graves Commission website to find each man using a range of historical research techniques. A certificate was printed for each man they found.  Where there was biographical information missing a small group of children then had the task of carrying out further historical research using ancestry websites to cross reference the information they did have to find the information they needed.  The missing information ranged from finding the full names where these were recorded only as initials to finding out where the men lived and information on their families.  Lastly, Year 4 had the task of bringing all the information together on a searchable database.  This is the first time that this information for these men has been brought together in one place.  The children involved in completing this work really did 'work as historians'.  It was time consuming work, requiring meticulous attention to detail as they sought to deliver a public heritage resource to a professional standard.
